Ants

The black garden ant usually live in our gardens, but do sometimes find a way in to our homes for sugary foods and it is then they become a pest.

• Ant nests are usually found under our paving, or between brickwork or within our soil in gardens.
• Ants will travel fairly long distances for food and will follow a chemical trail they have established to their food source.
• They usually feed by stroking aphids which they “milk” for their honeydew.
• They live in large colonies with thousand of workers who collect food, keep the nest clean and look after the young.
• Ants can lift 10-50 times their body weight.
